a rose by any other name...

Juliet famously asked "What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet." Well, that may be true, but I still feel the importance of finding the 'right' name for each child. We had a boy name picked out, but we have spent months tossing around girl names only to come up short. When she was born I thought we would just look at her and know her name, but it wasn't that easy. Through our 2-day hospital stay we continued to pour over baby name lists online, the nurses brought me lists of "m" names that they had heard, but we still couldn't agree on her name. I liked Maylee (Shasta gets credit for that one, she suggested it), Matt liked Myken, but we didn't love either of them. We couldn't think of a middle name for either name, and we were pretty much stuck. I refused to leave the hospital with a nameless child, but I didn't want to just settle on a name, I wanted to feel like it really fit her. After all, she does have to live with it for the REST of her life :). Well, finally on the morning that I was to leave the hospital I was feeding her and just staring at her sweet little face (my favorite part of having a newborn) and it popped into my head. Maylee Elizabeth Brown. Perfect, and it was so her. I texted Matt to see what he thought and he completely agreed. She needed the middle name to make it hers, which we found out later was also a family name. We are so glad to finally have a name for our sweet little girl, and we are thrilled to welcome Maylee to our family.
